Capacities is a note-taking and knowledge management app that organizes ideas as connected objects instead of files and folders. It is built for individuals.
What Capacities does
Objects and object types
Every note in Capacities is an object with a type, such as a book, a person, a meeting, or a project. You can create your own types and give each one properties, such as dates, ratings, tags, and links. Templates set how each new object of a type starts.
Links and backlinks
When you mention a person or a project, Capacities creates a two-way link automatically. Every object shows the other objects that reference it. A graph view shows the network of connections.
Daily notes
Capacities creates one note per day. Every object you create is timestamped and linked to that day. You can send thoughts from WhatsApp, Telegram, or email, and they appear in your daily note.
Pro features
Capacities Pro adds an AI assistant, calendar integrations, task management, and smart queries. The AI assistant can chat with your notes, fill in properties, and summarize or translate text. Calendar integrations connect Google, Microsoft, Apple Calendar, and CalDAV. See Pro.
Apps on six platforms
Capacities runs on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. See Download.
The app is available in English and German.
API and MCP
Capacities has a public REST API with an OpenAPI spec and a TypeScript SDK. Docs: developers.capacities.io.
Capacities hosts a remote MCP server at https://api.capacities.io/mcp (Streamable HTTP, not SSE).
The official MCP Registry name is io.capacities/mcp.
Service status is at status.capacities.io.
What makes Capacities different
The competitor facts in this section come from our comparison pages. Each page was fact-checked in April 2026. For the same question answered by users, see why people choose Capacities.
Typed objects, not pages or files
Capacities stores notes as typed objects with properties and links. Notion uses pages and databases. Obsidian uses plain Markdown files in local folders. Apple Notes uses folders and tags. See Capacities vs Notion and Capacities vs Obsidian.
Six platforms, including web and Linux
Capacities has apps for the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. None of the seven tools on our comparison pages covers all six. Notion and Evernote have no Linux app. Obsidian, Heptabase, and Anytype have no web app. Tana has no Windows or Linux desktop app. Apple Notes has no Windows, Linux, or Android app. See all comparisons.
Built for individuals
Capacities has no real-time collaboration, and none is planned. There are no team or organization plans. Notion uses per-seat team pricing. See What's Not Next and why we build for individuals.
Full offline access
You can open, create, and edit content in Capacities without an internet connection. Integrations and AI still need internet. Notion's offline support is limited and cloud-dependent. Tana has limited offline support. Evernote has offline notebooks on paid plans only. See Capacities vs Tana and Capacities vs Evernote.
Bootstrapped, EU-hosted, and no lock-in
Capacities is bootstrapped. There are no outside investors. User data is stored in the EU. You can export your content to Markdown, CSV, Microsoft Word, HTML, and LaTeX at any time. See Our Promise.
